What time is the opening ceremony of WC 2011?

With the countdown to the ICC World Cup fast approaching its blast off, the air in the sub-continent is tense with anticipation while fans are palpitating from a omniscient cricket frenzy. The suspense will draw to an end at 6 pm on Thursday, Feb 17 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka when 14 glowing teams will strut out in glistening official attire to the emcee's announcements of their respective names.

At that moment, the Bangladeshi capital will turn the centre of the entire cricketing world. Televisions from Jamaica to Canberra will be tuning in as multicultural eye-balls feast on the visual banquet that will be in the process of unfolding.

After the cricketing battalions have been introduced and the shutter-bugs have snapped their fill of images of them, the evening's entertainment will take centre stage. Bollywood stars of the likes of Preetam, Sanu Nigum and Sankar Ehasan Loy will regale the crowds with catchy, toe-tapping tunes.

Their act will be followed by the croonings of Bangladeshi stars before school children will put on a show of their own, after which a performance showcasing of subcontinental culture will take place. The itinerary will be rounded off by a fireworks display and a laser show. It will truly be a spectacle to remember and a fitting way to herald in another edition of the ICC World Cup.
